GENERAL NEWS

Reminders
The end of Term 3 is Friday 10th February. Monday 20th is an In-Service Training Day. School re-opens for pupils on Tuesday 21st February.

Holidays
We would like to remind parents of our policy for leave of absence for pupils. A copy of the Policy and Guidelines are on the school website.

Regular attendance and punctuality are important if children are to take part fully in the life of the school and to take advantage of the learning opportunities offered by the school.
We recognise that attending school regularly and punctually is vital to the educational process and encourages a good pattern of work.

There is no automatic right to holiday leave for pupils in term time. Holiday absence will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances. If parents choose to take a child out of school without permission the absence will be recorded on the school and child’s record as unauthorised and a fixed penalty notice of £50 per child/per parent may be issued by the LA.
In exceptional circumstances the parents /carers can write to the Headteacher requesting leave of absence. The Headteacher will carefully explore with parents/carers why such leave of absence is necessary. Where such leave is sanctioned it constitutes authorised absence.

Collection of plastic bottles
To enable us to build a plastic bottle greenhouse like the one at Abbotswood Primary School. Now ….. We need more bottles!! Please remember to rinse out bottles and cut the top and bottom off. There is an area by the school kitchen where these bottles can be left.

Playrangers After School Club
There are still some places left for the Playrangers Club. Letters have this week been sent home to Reception Class children who can now join. If your child would like to join, please contact the office for more information. The sessions are held on a Tuesday after school and cost £2 per session.

After School Football Club
Letters have been sent home for next term. Club commences on Wednesday 22nd February.

Netball News
Well done to the ‘B’ Team who beat Our Lady of Lourdes 4 – 1, and the ‘A’ team who beat Bromley Heath 23 – 0.

After School Choir
There will be no choir until Monday March 5th.

Term 3 Family Challenge
Thank you to everyone who entered last term’s Maths Family Challenge – all entries were of a really high standard and families had obviously enjoyed themselves. This term, we have a ‘Board Game Challenge’ for you. We would like you to play a board game with your family. Then, you need to produce a presentation about the game. This could take any form – poster, leaflet, model, written report, comic etc. Please give all entries to your class teacher by Friday 10th February.

School Uniform
Lara Loomes, PTFA, will be in the entrance foyer on a Monday morning from 8.45 – 9.15am to sell school uniform.

Islam Day – Tuesday 17th April
Our RE curriculum, which is based on the South Gloucestershire scheme of work, recognises the importance of learning about a variety of faiths. Days learning about and celebrating the Hindu and Jewish faiths and Chinese New Year have been very successful and enjoyable. Some parents have been able to join us on these days, talking to children about their faith and sharing in activities.
On 17th April we are planning a day when we will all learn about Islam. For part of the day children will work in family groups on creative activities. If you, or someone you know, would like to take part in the day, please let Mrs. Young or the office know.
